On Wednesday the 23rd of January, Heart Valve Voice Chief Executive, Wil Woan was invited by NICE to share his insights and be a part of the development process for the 2019 NICE guidelines for heart valve disease. It was a brilliant opportunity to represent the patient voice amongst the esteemed group of clinicians and leading policy makers in attendance.

At Heart Valve Voice we believe in the importance of studies and trials that aim to help research and improve the diagnosis and treatment of heart valve disease. We have been involved in and provided support for a number of trials over the past few years and have plans for our involvement in more trials and studies to come in 2019.

On 14 November, Channel 5 provided a rare opportunity for television viewers by inviting them inside a operating theatre at St Bartholomew's Hospital while consultant cardiac surgeon, Mr Kulvinder Lall, performed open heart surgery on patient Kamal, aged 69. The surgery involved Mr Lall replacing an aortic valve for his patient, a surgery that many of our patient ambassadors have been through themselves.
