As a consultant at Guy’s & St Thomas’s Hospital in London heart valve voice chairman, Chris Young treats heart valve patients every day as part of his job. However, when recently faced with having to see his two year old granddaughter, Connie, go through her own heart valve surgery he has seen the disease and what patients go through in a different light.

5-7 June saw the Heart Valve Voice team at the British Cardiovascular Society (BCS) conference in Manchester.

It was a wonderful moment when TAVI pioneer, Professor Alain Cribier (Rouen, France) took time out of EuroPCR to meet the Heart Valve Voice cycle team and pledge his support to raising awareness of valve disease.

We did it! The 2017 Heart Valve Voice Cycle ride ended with a successful finish at the EuroPCR conference Paris on Wednesday 17 May. The team made it over 200 miles and through cities, towns and villages over two countries to reach their ultimate goal of presenting the Heart Valve Voice message of raising awareness of heart valve disease on stage at EuroPCR.

The countdown is on to our cycle ride from London to the EuroPCR conference in Paris, less than a week to go! So before we depart we wanted to take some time to reflect on how everything has come together to get us to this point.

Last month we were delighted to attend a TAVI day at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London. The event featured TAVI experts working to raise awareness of this innovative, life-saving technology, which celebrates the 10th anniversary of the first UK implant this month.
